Yesterday marked the beginning of New York Fashion Week, one of the most important fashion events of the year! And as it’s Parisian counterpart is around the corner (March 3rd), let’s get you French fashion vocabulary savvy!
In French, Fashion Week is “semaine de la mode” and “fashion show” is “défilé de mode.” But be aware that French people like to sound cool and use some English words too! So you might hear:
J’aimerais voir beaucoup de défilés pendant la semaine de la mode OR J’aimerais voir beaucoup de shows pendant la Fashion Week. They both mean “I’d love to see a lot of shows during Fashion week.”
Designers will show their new Fall Winter 2015/16 collection (in French “collection Automne Hiver 2015-16”). And more precisely, their ready-to-wear (in French “prêt-à-porter”) pieces.
J’adore la nouvelle collection de prêt-à-porter de Marc Jacobs. – I love the new Marc Jacobs ready-to-wear collection.
Le défilé Automne Hiver de Chanel est magnifique. – The Chanel Fall Winter show is magnificent.
Rendez-vous next Friday for another Fashion Week post!
