Today, another French word that is commonly used in English. I often hear people say things like “Rendez-vous at 7” or “When do you want to rendez-vous?”
But do you really know what a rendez-vous is? In French, it can have 3 slightly different meanings.
The first one is an appointment (like with a doctor or a hair stylist):
Elle a rendez-vous chez le dentiste. – She has an appointment with the dentist.
It can also be a meeting point:
Rendez-vous au bar de l’hôtel à midi. – Rendez-vous at the bar of the hotel at noon.
And the last one is a date, like with a lover!
J’ai rendez-vous avec Julien. J’ai hâte! – I have a date with Julien. I can’t wait!
