Did you notice how trendy the seventies are at the moment? As we’ve noted before, French people love to use English words to sound cool! So it’s really common to hear something like:
J’adore la musiques des eighties – I love music from the eighties.
Je voudrais une robe des fifties, comme dans Mad Men. – I’d like a dress from the fifties, like in Mad Men.
But the correct way to talk about a decade (décade) in French is as follow:
Les années 70 sont à la mode. – The seventies (literally “the years 70”) are trendy.
J’aime le jazz des années 30. – I like jazz from the thirties (literally “the years 30”).
