As you may know, the primary meaning of “la bouche” is mouth. This word is also used in a bunch of expressions. I share my favorites with you today:
- “amuse-bouche” or literally “mouth entertainer.” Fancy way to talk about appetizers, right?!
Ils servent des amuse-bouches au Gala du MET. – They serve appetizers at the MET Gala.
- “bouche de métro” is used to designate a metro entrance (literally “mouth of metro”).
La bouche de métro est à deux blocs. – The metro entrance is two blocks away.
3.“bouche en cul de poule” (literally “chicken butt mouth”) is a favorite of the selfie addicted teens. It’s the French equivalent of the American “duck lips.”
#culdepoule – #ducklips
4.“bouche-à-bouche” is exactly the same (“mouth-to-mouth”).
Le maître-nageur a fait du bouche-à-bouche. – The lifeguard gave mouth-to-mouth.
- “bouche-à-oreille” (literally “mouth-to-ear”) is our way to say “word of mouth”.
Je suis connue par le bouche-à-oreille. – I am known through word of mouth.”
