They are called “French fries” in the US but don’t make that mistake when ordering them in in France! We call them “frites” which simply means “fries.” Also, you need to know that they were actually created in Belgium so they should be called Belgian Fries!
J’adore les frites avec de la mayonnaise. – I love french fries with mayonnaise.
Je voudrais un steak avec des frites. – I would like a steak with french fries.
Also note that a popular place to eat fries in Belgium and the North of France is called a “friterie.” It usually is a food truck, a small fast food restaurant or a little shack. They also serve all sorts of sandwiches, burgers and sausages.
